ALcontrol Laboratories are a rapidly expanding European company with 20 laboratories in the Netherlands, the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden, with a turnover in excess of 140 million Euros. As one of the largest independent testing laboratories in Europe, ALcontrol provides a service to the environmental (water, soil and air) and food markets. ALcontrol employs approximately 1500 people throughout Northern Europe, with a wide variety of skills, expertise and experience, and analyse over three million samples a year.
The ALcontrol group has an annual turnover of £100m, with £60m from the UK, of which £27m is from the Contaminated Land Division, which includes ALcontrol Hawarden in Chester, as well as ALcontrol Langley and ALcontrol Dublin.
Quality procedures
The nature of the business of ALcontrol Laboratories Land Division places particular emphasis on the quality, accuracy, safety, timeliness and cost benefits of our analytical services. It is our primary aim to satisfy the technical expectations and requirements of our clients and to deliver the service in a timely and effective manner.
In order to achieve this aim, ALcontrol Laboratories has established and maintains an effective and efficient Quality Management System, planned in conjunction with other management functions. It is therefore the policy of ALcontrol Laboratories to achieve and maintain the highest standards of quality with in its laboratories and to ensure that testing is conducted with:-
(a) technical and commercial integrity, (b) a known level of accuracy in all tests and measurements, (c) careful observation and accurate recording.
The Quality Management System has been designed to meet the requirements of BS EN ISO/ IEC 17025 and MCERTS (Soil). Copies of the contents pages of our Quality Manuals can be supplied upon request, with clients actively encouraged to audit our laboratories by prior arrangement.
Added Value
ALcontrol Hawarden have always been one of the UK’s leaders in both training seminars and on site training. This not only helps our clients, but helps the laboratory, as the better informed clients are about laboratory techniques and practices, the better their understanding of on site sampling. Hazel Davidson routinely gives in house seminars to clients covering all aspects of contaminated land, from recent legislation to sampling and analytical techniques.
With a background in the petroleum industry, investing in new technology has always been a high priority. The latest instrument acquired by ALcontrol Hawarden is a Time of Flight MS, which is the only one in the UK used for forensic oil analysis. This instrument is used for identifying and correlating petroleum spills, with data often being used in legal cases.
ALcontrol Hawarden have many very experienced staff who are always willing to help with interpretation of data, and suggest appropriate analyses for particular site issues.
