North East Centre Joint event with the Institute of Quarrying Venue: Bridge Inn, Walshford, Wetherby, North YorkshirePresentation by Mike Hales, Senior Environment Officer (Waste), Ridings Area, Environment AgencyMike will describe how over the last 12 months the Environment Agency has adopted the Modern Regulation approach and explain how the initiative aims to deliver a service that is more risk based and responsive to customer needs. Mike will be also be cover the establishment of Centralised teams to implement permitting and registration of exemptions, the Use of Regulatory Position Statements (e.g. restoration of quarries) and the Development of Quality Protocols to indicate when waste can be considered "fully recovered". North East Site visit to SITA EfW Tees side Venue: Haverton Hill Tees sideThe Teesside energy-from-waste (EfW) plant is run by SITA Tees Valley, a joint venture between SITA UK and the four Teesside local authorities of Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Hartlepool.The facility has been fully operational since May 1998, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, processing municipal and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste.The facility has two furnace lines with a combined processing capacity of 250,000 tonnes of municipal waste per year. A third line is currently under construction which will be capable of processing a further 125,000 tonnes of municipal waste.
