WEEE AND HAZARDOUS WASTE
DEFRA has issued a report looking at items of WEEE and their hazardous nature. The report examined what components (of which types) of WEEE are rendered hazardous by virtue of the Hazardous Waste Directive; what components need to be removed from the discarded equipment under the WEEE Directive and what additional de-polluting activities would be required for hazardous items of WEEE to be classified as non-hazardous waste. REPORT INTO IRELAND'S PROGRESS ON WASTE MANAGEMENT
The Department for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for the Republic of Ireland has published a report on waste management improvements in Ireland over the last 5 years. The report highlights a doubling of the number of Bring Sites to 1,700 and Civic Amenity sites to 55. Provision of segregated waste (kerb-side) collections now covers 42% of all households. Further progress is hoped to be made through provision of further funding for local authority recycling facilities and through the expansion of pay as you use charging schemes for waste collection throughout Ireland by next year. See www.environ.ie
A report on the implementation of WEEE in the Republic of Ireland is also available at the above site (you may need to select acrobat reader is doesn't open automatically).
