BATTERIES DIRECTIVE CONSULTATION

The DTI has issued a consultation on the proposals to introduce an EU Directive on batteries and accumulators. Measures within the proposed directive would see the introduction of producer responsibility, with collection and recycling targets for manufacturers (or those acting on their behalf) set along with storage and treatment requirements. Disposal to landfill and incineration of automotive and industrial batteries would be prohibited under the proposals. See www.dti.gov.uk/sustainability/ep/Batteries_Consultation.pdf
