INCREASE IN FINES FOR ABANDONED VEHICLES IN SCOTLAND

The removal, storage and disposal of vehicles (prescribed sums and charges) amendment (Scotland) Regulations 2005 came into force on November 10th 2005. The Regulations increase the charges that can be made for removal of vehicles, costs of their storage and disposal costs to those abandoning vehicles. In some cases the charges have been increased threefold.

LATEST RACE AGAINST WASTE CAMPAIGN UNVEILED

The latest initiative in the Republic of Ireland’s national waste awareness campaign has been launched. A new web site aimed at teenagers provides school and youth groups with information on waste issues and allows people to determine how aware they are of waste issues.

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST ~ FARM PLASTICS PROGRAMME

The Agricultural Waste Stakeholders Forum (AWSF) has been successful with an application to Defra regarding the use of BREW Programme funds to support the investigation, development and promotion of a producer responsibility Farm Plastics Collection and Recovery Programme in England. CIWM (EB), the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management Environmental Body, will be engaging in a selective tendering process very shortly to identify contractors to undertake the main body of the programme work over a 2 year period.  Consultancies and other organisations wishing to express an interest in bidding for this work should do so immediately.  For more details see http://www.ciwm.co.uk/pma/2196

CONSTRUCTION WASTE ARISINGS PROJECT

Defra are funding a project to measure the amount of construction waste generated within the UK. Construction contractors and clients, waste management companies, planners and other interested parties are being invited to become involved in the project and assist in data collection.
