HAZARDOUS DOMESTIC WASTE
Defra has written to all Waste Disposal and Collection Authorities in England to highlight the requirements of the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 for domestic waste. Domestic waste is excluded from the Regulation's requirements; however, once a fraction of hazardous waste from a domestic source is separated (such as at a CA/HWRC or central collection point) the requirements of the regulations are applicable.

Recycling rates for all 26 Northern Ireland Local Authorities are also provided. See www.ehsni.gov.uk/pubs/publications/SummaryReport211205.pdf
WASTE MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE
The Institution of Civil Engineers has produced a report entitled 'The case for a resource management strategy'. The report argues that using the right treatment method for waste has the potential to help prevent 17 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions each year.
