PPC GUIDANCE FOR ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES FOR CLINICAL WASTE
The Environment Agency has issued supplementary guidance on the principles to be applied to alternative treatment processes for rendering safe infectious healthcare waste. The guidance also highlights those clinical waste types that are suitable for alternative treatments and those that should continue to be sent for high temperature treatments. MEASURING ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRESS IN EUROPE
The European Union has produced a leaflet detailing the performance of the EU in the key priority areas highlighted by their sixth Environment Action Programme. Municipal waste receives a 'red light' due to its increase by nearly 20 per cent 1995, but receives a 'green light' for increased levels of recycling and a small growth of energy recovery. DIARY DATE CORRECTION
In this month's issue of Wastes Management there was an error in our Diary Dates listing. The Proven Technologies from Europe seminar is on 22 March at Perth Concert Hall, Perth, not 5 April as was listed. The Local Authority Briefing Session, however, does take place on 5 April at the Quorn Country House Hotel, Loughborough.
PERMITTING REVIEW BRAINSTORMING SESSION
The CIWM waste regulation and hazardous waste groups will be holding a brainstorming session on the 28th March to discuss the consultation on the options for creating a streamlined environmental permitting and compliance system. FEEDBACK SOUGHT: DOWNLOADABLE INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF WASTE PROCESSES
Juniper consultancy is examining the feasibility of making individual process reviews available via their website in PDF format. The company is seeking your help to prioritise topics for these new reports. They are asking you to complete a 90 second on-line questionnaire. Information provided will be completely confidential. NEW DIRECTIONS IN WASTE ~ NGG CONFERENCE
The 7th national New Generation Group event will take place on 31st March / 1st April 2006 at the Edinburgh Training Centre. CIWM CYMRU WALES CENTRE - WEEE MEETING & SITE VISIT - 28TH MARCH 2006
Will take place at M Baker Recycling Ltd, St Helens, Merseyside. M Baker operate a fridge recycling plant 24hrs a day, seven days a week, processing on average 60 units per hour and have treated in excess of 1.5 million units to date. They are also now fully licensed to accept all ten categories of WEEE, making them the first fully specific WEEE Plant in the UK with plans for another.
