JUNE 5th is Environment day throughout the world established by the United Nations Environment Programme to commemorate the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the human environment held in 1972. Promise the Earth for World Environment Day.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY ISSUE LIST OF WASTE GUIDANCE
The Environment Agency have issued new guidance to provide information on how to interpret the List of wastes (implementating the European Waste Catalogue) to help anyone producing, carrying or managing waste in England and Wales to code it correctly.  The guidance is part of the wider work being done by WIP in developing the waste data strategy Copies of a CD introducing the strategy and explaining the guidance will be issued with the June edition of the Journal.  For a

SEPA AGRICULTURAL WASTE GUIDANCE
SEPA has issued further guidance to farmers following changes to controls on agricultural wastes. A series of free events to explain the new requirements are also being held. See www.sepa.org.uk/publications/leaflets/agric/index.htm

FIXED PENALTY NOTICE RETURNS
Defra are requesting that all local authorities and bodies with fixed penalty notice issuing powers submit returns detailing all fixed penalty notices issued for relevant local environmental quality offences during the last quarter. DEFRA WIP EDUCATION & TRAINING PROGRAMME: ON-LINE SURVEY
Defra is undertaking a second annual on-line survey to support work on the development of materials for a new Masters module and two VRQs (in advanced waste management technologies and principles of sustainable waste management), as part of the New Technologies strand of the Waste Implementation Programme. This survey opened last Friday and is continuing until 26th June. Respondents are asked for comments on the course subjects and their current levels of knowledge.
