The Department of Communities and Local Government has published a companion guide for Planning Policy Statement 10: Planning for Sustainable Waste Management. The guide provides practical advice and examples of current practice, which is aimed at helping planning authorities and developers.

HEALTH & SAFETY GUIDANCE: WASTE AND RECYCLING VEHICLES IN STREET COLLECTION
The Health and Safety Executive and the Industry Safety and Health Forum (WISH) have produced a best practice guide to help remove or reduce the risk of injury caused by waste/recycling collection vehicles operating in the street.

SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT NATIONAL ACTION PLAN
The Sustainable Procurement Taskforce has launched its National Action Plan –“Procuring the Future”. The Action Plan highlights the need for the Government to lead by example, communicate clear priorities, capture opportunities, raise standards and reduce barriers in order to drive sustainable procurement forward.

TARGETS FOR SUSTAINABLE OPERATIONS IN GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS
Alongside the Action Plan, Government has pledged new targets for sustainable operations on the government estate. Targets include, government departments reducing their waste arisings by 25%, relative to 2004/05 levels and increasing their recycling rate by 75% of their waste over the same period,
