REDUCING COMPOST WASTE IN WELSH LANDFILL SITES

RIVER BASIN PLANNING GUIDANCE LAUNCHED

Defra has launched guidance that sets out principles and key steps for the river basin planning process.  It focuses on the nine river basin districts in England and Wales and one of the two cross-border river basin districts in England and Scotland, each of which is required to have a River Basin Management Plan.  See http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/water/wfd/index.htm under the What’s New section.

WRAP LAUNCHES NEW AGGREGAIN “OPPORTUNITIES” MODULE

HSC PROMOTES SAFE SYSTEMS OF WORK TO REDUCE FATALITIES IN WASTE AND RECYCING COLLECTION WORK

STREET CLEANING AND ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

The prime-time ITV programme "Tonight with Trevor McDonald" are putting together a feature on assaults on street cleaners, following research done by the British Cleaning Council stating that the problem was on the increase.  They are looking for an example of an incident and want to interview a victim who can simply relay what happened to them.  If this is something you can assist them with, please contact eibhlin.osomachain@encams.org

HSE LAUNCHES ASBESTOS CAMPAIGN FOR SEPTEMBER TO OCTOBER

The 'Don’t take the gamble' campaign will take place from September to October 2006. CORUS LAUNCH NATIONAL NETWORK FOR STEEL PACKAGING RECYCLING

RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY: UNLOCKING THE RIDDLE OF LCD RE-USE

Scientists in the Department of Chemistry at the University of York have won a major DTI competition to investigate ways of extracting and recycling liquid crystals from waste LCD devices. They are part of a consortium of nine partners and supported by the Resource Efficiency Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the Displays and Lighting Knowledge Transfer Network.
