SCOTLAND RECYCLING NEARS 25 PERCENT
Figures released by SEPA show that for the period between April 2005 and
March 2006 has shown Scotland is now recycling 24.4 percent of municipal

THE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR SCOTLAND REGULATIONS
These draft regulations would ensure that the Public Participation Directive
is complied with, when the National Waste Strategy is amended. The
regulations will not apply if Strategic Environmental Assessment
procedures are followed when the National Waste Strategy is amended.

ONLINE LOCAL AUTHORITY WASTE PREVENTION GUIDANCE
WRAP has launched a toolkit to provide practical guidance for waste
prevention measure at a local level. The guidance works through the business

DEFRA HAVE ON LINE TRADING AGREEMENT FOR LATS USERS
Defra commissioned consultants to provide a Model Landfill Allowance Trading

SEPA LAUNCH THE FIRST ONLINE AUTHORISATION SYSTEM
For the first time applicants can apply for authorisations online with discounted fees.
The new Controlled Activities Regulations which came into force on 1st of April 2006 allow certain low risk water use activities to be authorised by registration; now, these can be applied for online.

BATTERIES AND ACCUMULATORS DIRECTIVE
The new battery and accumulators directive has been developed due to the existing legislation only applying to 7% of consumer batteries that are available on the
European market containing mercury, lead and cadmium above a certain threshold.
The new directive covers all types of batteries and accumulators; it was published in
