EU CONSULTATION ON CHANGES TO END OF LIFE VEHICLES DIRECTIVE 2000/53/EC

PROPOSED AMENDMENT OF THE POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2000 (THE PPC REGULATIONS)

Invitations to comment on an amendment to the PPC regulations to remove from
the list of activities, installations and mobile plant to which the Regulations apply,
some landfill gas engines of between 3 - 50MW (aggregated capacity), which are
used to convert landfill gas produced by the biological degradation of waste in a

PROPOSED PLANNING BEST VALUE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR 2007/08 CONSULTATION

This consultation names those local planning authorities in England that the
Department proposes to formally designate as planning standards authorities for
2007-08 under the Best Value provisions of the Local Government Act 1999 because

FREE TRAINING TO IMPROVE NUMERACY AND LITERACY SKILLS

As part of an ongoing pilot programme to improve literacy and numeracy skills
within the waste management industry WAMITAB is looking for employers operating
in the Babergh District/Forest Heath, south Bedfordshire and south Cambridgeshire areas.  These employers should be capable of providing a minimum of ten employees

ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOURS TOWARDS SLIPS, TRIPS AND FALLS

NEW CONSTRUCTION FUNDING SUPPORT AVAILABLE TO HELP BUSINESSES GROWTH

WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) has launched a construction waste recycling infrastructure capital support programme and is encouraging UK based construction and demolition waste collection or recycling businesses to apply for

NEW FACILITY SET TO INCREASE RECYCLED AGGREGATES IN SCOTLAND

A new aggregate recycling facility, part-funded by WRAP (the Waste & Resources

CONSULTATION TO SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF WATER FRAMEWORK DIRECTIVE IN SCOTLAND

REVIEW OF THE ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS REGULATION

Version 5 has gone for inter-services consultation within the Commission (Document SANCO/2006/10452R5 see http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/by-prods/pdf/draftproposal_101006.pdf).  Regulation 1774/2002 is being proposed for repeal and replaced entirely.  Detail in the annexes of 1774/2002 are to be updated amended via comitology (Commission competence).  Defra are seeking views on

BIODIESEL TRIAL LOOKS TO DRIVE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY FUTURE

Recycled vegetable oil is being harnessed in a two-year biodiesel trial announced 19
Oct 2006, that will see 100 Environment Agency vehicles reducing their emissions by 20%.  The trial will aim to demonstrate the environmental and economic viability of this part renewable fuel, with an independent auditor verifying the effects of long-term biodiesel use on the fleet.  See http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/news

CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Waste and Resources Management Industry needs to significantly improve its performance in managing health and safety responsibilities and reduce accidents.  CIWM in partnership with a stakeholder steering committee intends to develop a health and safety initiative for the Sector entitled “Changing Gear”.  CIWM (EB), the
