M Level Module in Advanced Waste Management Technologies

The Masters Level module will allow students to understand the role that advanced waste management technologies can play in helping the UK to achieve sustainability in wastes management.

The courses are part of Defra’s New Technologies programme which aims to promote the use of innovative waste management technologies. There are a number of elements within this programme;

Technology Research and Innovation Fund (TRIF) and Demonstrator Programme -focussed on helping to develop new technologies,

Supporter Programme and Waste Technology Data Centre - providing stakeholders with information on what technologies are available.

Education and Training Programme - providing opportunities for those working in the waste industry and related professions to gain formal vocational and academic qualifications in sustainable waste management and in new waste management technologies.

The Education and Training Programme aims to help move the UK away from its heavy reliance on landfill and incineration, moving towards a culture of resource management and efficiency.

An important part of the success of this strategy will be the collective actions of individuals and organisations that must identify and implement waste management solutions.  This programme will help promote the technological and cultural transition required to ensure that the UK has an adequate knowledge and skills base that will deliver the sustainable management of wastes through these means.
