GUIDANCE ON TREATMENT OF NON-HAZARDOUS WASTE FOR LANDFILL
The Environment Agency has issued guidance on the requirement to treat non-hazardous waste prior to it being landfilled, a requirement of the Landfill Directive that comes into force on the 30th October 2007. The guidance details the 3 point test as to what constitutes treatment, which includes sorting and separation of MSW.

EU COUNTRY WASTE FACTSHEETS
The European Topic Centre on Resource and Waste Management has issued fact sheets providing general information on the legislative waste framework and waste management plans for EU countries. Waste data for each of the countries is also provided within the fact sheets.

NEW WASTE PFI STRUCTURE
Defra has announced that a new streamlined process for applying for waste PFI funding. The new arrangements will open windows where bids for funding can be made, rather than the current situation where funding is granted on a first come first serve basis.
