PREVENTING CIGARETTE LITTER IN ENGLAND; GUIDELINES FOR LOCAL AUTHORITIES
ENCAMS in conjunction with Defra have developed guidelines to provide information and resources about cigarette litter prevention. The guidelines are aimed at local authorities to help them contain and reduce cigarette litter on their land and provide guidance on forming partnerships with businesses and retailers in their area. PROTECTING AND IMPROVING IRELAND’S ENVIRONMENT- 2020 VISION
The EPA have released the third formal strategy, it sets out a long-term vision for Ireland’s environment to 2020 as well as the actions the EPA will undertake between 2007 and 2010 to achieve this vision. Goals have been set within the strategy including more efficient use of resources where waste will be prevented and minimised, with the balance safely collected, recycled or recovered. EU COMMUNICATION ON THE 2006 ENVIRONMENT POLICY REVIEW
A communication from the EU on the 2006 environment Policy Review has been released. The communication includes a summary of the main policy developments for the four priorities of the 6th Environment Action Programme. AMENDMENTS TO THE REGULATORY REGIME GOVERNING LANDFILLS IN NORTHERN IRELAND
Amendments that have been made to Landfill Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 and the Waste Management Licensing Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 have now come into operation. The Regulations re-enact, with amendments, the waste acceptance criteria to be met by granular waste and set new waste acceptance criteria for monolithic waste, both in respect of stable non reactive waste and non-hazardous waste deposited in the same cell and waste acceptable at landfills for hazardous waste

The FlyCapture Training Programme is a national training programme developed by Defra, the Environment Agency and the Welsh Assembly Government designed for local authority enforcement staff and lawyers.
