FINAL REGULATORY IMPACT ASSESSMENT ON EXTENSION OF STREET LITTER CONTROL NOTICES
Defra have released the final regulatory impact assessment on the extension of street litter control notices. The publication provides information on the costs and benefits associated with the extension of Street Litter Control Notices to include additional business premises. DCLG WORKING PAPER ON NEIGHBOURHOOD & STREETSCENE SERVICES
The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) have issued a working paper which sets out key findings in relation to neighbourhood and streetscene services in local government. The report highlights key challenges and opportunities in relation

LAUNCH OF 2007 LOCAL AGENDA 21 ENVIRONMENTAL PARTNERSHIP FUND
Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government announced, that total grant assistance is being made available for the 2007 Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund. This scheme has been very popular with local communities since it was first introduced in 1997. The Fund allows excellent opportunity for individuals and communities to acknowledge the stake they have in their local environment and to work together with their local authority to solve environmental problems and change behaviour in favour of the environment. NEW RESEARCH REVEALS GROWTH IN PLASTIC BOTTLE RECYCLING RATES
Research funded by Waste Recycling Action Programme (WRAP) has revealed that plastic bottle recycling continues to grow, with 92% of UK local authorities now offering recycling collection facilities for plastic bottles. The findings of the UK Plastic Bottle Recycling Survey 2007 indicate that a widespread shift towards kerbside collection has played a key role in increasing plastic bottle recycling rates. CLIMATE PROOFING RURAL RESOURCE PROTECTION POLICIES AND STRATEGIES IN WALES
The Environment Agency and Countryside Council for Wales have released a report on Climate proofing rural resource protection policies and strategies in Wales. The project assessed the capacity and resilience of six natural resource policies, strategies and plans to function in changed climates in 2020 and 2050. SCOTLANDS BETTER WASTE REGULATION CONSULATION
SEPA and the Scottish Executive this week have carried out a number of consultation workshops to engage directly with the stakeholders. There have been a low number of local authorities in attendance at these events, therefore we must urge our regulated sector to respond and have their say on the future direction of waste regulation.
