The Scottish New Generation Group visited Hitech’s waste treatment facility on 21st September 2007. Gaynor Hutton and her colleagues provided interesting and informative tours of the site.
Hitech are an award winning waste treatment and industrial service company based in Paisley. They operate a fleet of tankers, jetters and industrial cleaning squads but over the past five years have transformed the site into a nationally recognised facility for the treatment of "problematic" hazardous wastes. They specialise in treating wastes such as oily sludges, oil contaminated rags, PPE, packaging, etc. The site also handles millions of litres per year of liquid waste including sewage, oily waters, inks, paints, adhesives, etc.
The site brings the most innovative of technologies together to solve problems for the waste industry - for example, they have imported Infra Red technology from the USA that treats oil contaminated filter cake, changing the hazardous waste to a non hazardous material. They design and build their own bespoke processes for each waste stream that they handle. The site is truly unique and has recently received a PPC permit from SEPA for the facility.
Over the last two years Hitech's innovations have been recognised by winning the 2006 National Recycling Award for Best Waste Minimisation Project of the Year and the 2006 CIWM Award for Innovation and recently they were awarded the 2007 Peel's People Cup for the Best Operating Team at a Waste Facility.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable visit. Thanks to Gaynor and her colleagues for their time and answering all the questions. The NGG visit was followed by a site open day and party night with some guests staying long into the night!
