HSE GUIDANCE ISSUED FOR HWRCS AND SKIP CONTAINERS
The Heath and Safety Executive (HSE) have recently published three new guidance notes on waste safety matters. INCREASE IN COMMITTED RECYCLERS
WRAP have reported that 8.5 million more people are now ‘committed’ recyclers, with 25.5 million people now committed to recycling in England. The figures show a 16 percent increase in those committed to recycling since 2004 when the Recycle Now campaign was launched. See

PROTOCOL FOR LARGE DOMESTIC APPLIANCES ARISING AS WEEE
Defra have issued protocols (developed through the CIWM EB) to assist in the recording and reporting of WEEE recycling in the UK for large domestic appliances. The survey provides information on the composition of the large domestic appliance arisings at CA sites.

SIMPLYFYING BUSINES SUPPORT
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) has issued a consultation on simplifying business support. The Government currently funds over 3000 business support schemes in England. The consultation seeks to simplify support schemes so no more than 100 schemes remain by 2010. The Environment Agency have relaunched their web site www.wastematters.org.uk where business and local authorities can go to share hints, tips and best practice on waste and fly-tipping issues.
SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION AND SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIAL POLICY
The European Union has issued a consultation on sustainable consumption and production and sustainable industrial policy. The consultation aims to develop an action plan to reduce environmental impacts of products, production and consumption throughout the life cycle.
