REPUBLIC IRELAND CONSULTATION ON REGISTRATION OF WASTE BROKERS AND DEALERS
The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have launched a public consultation on the draft Waste Management (Registration of Brokers and Dealers) 2007. The primary aim of these regulations is to provide a registration system for waste brokers and dealers who arrange shipments of waste under transfrontier shipment regulations. WASTE PROTOCOLS PROJECT - BLAST FURNACE SLAG IS RE-CLASSIFIED
As part of the Waste Protocols run jointly by the Environment Agency and WRAP, the legal classification of Blast Furnace Slag (BFS) has changed from a waste to by-product. This will allow the construction industry easier access to more than 3 million tonnes of BFS produced annually. WASTE INFRASTRUCTURE DELIVERY PROGRAMME PLANNING SYSTEM GUIDANCE
Defra’s Waste Infrastructure Delivery Programme have published guidance on Planning Systems seeking to encourage a constructive approach to waste planning. Particularly it aims to help ensure that regional spatial strategies (RSS) and local development plans conform to national planning guidance on waste. The aim is to ensure that waste infrastructure needed to deliver Defra’s Waste Strategy for England 2007 receive planning approval, while promoting best practice in the way local authorities consult stakeholders on their waste strategies. WEBSITE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF CONSTRUCTION WASTE
The Construction Resources and Waste Platform (CRWP) have launched a 'one-stop shop' website for all aspects of construction waste. This website keep the construction industry informed of industry and construction waste related policy, events, news and publications. FREE EPP TECHNICAL COMPETENCE BRIEFING SESSION AND WORKSHOP
CIWM/WAMITAB and ESA/EUS have both submitted proposals for revised schemes for operators to demonstrate Technical Competence. On the 21st September, in conjunction with Defra, we will be holding a morning briefing session and workshop to discuss these proposals and get your views.
