EEA REPORT PAN-EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENT: GLIMPSES INTO AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE

THE EEA ROAD FROM LANDFILLING TO RECYCLING: COMMON DESTINATION, DIFFERENT ROUTES REPORT

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY WASTE PROTOCOLS
The Environment Agency Waste Protocols Project has published an Interim Regulatory Position Statement setting out how the Environment Agency will regulate wastes whilst they are being considered by the project. LGA FOOD PACKAGING STUDY: WAVE 1
Research published by the Local Government Association (LGA) revealed up to 40 per cent of a regular household shopping basket cannot be recycled. The study monitored food packaging levels in terms of amount of packaging and composition of that packaging. WLGA LAUNCHES CONSULTATION ON DRAFT REGIONAL WASTE PLANS
The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) has launched a consultation which is aimed at setting a framework for the development of a network of modern waste management facilities for Wales. The consultation is split into three regional plans which span the whole of Wales and include each of the 22 local authorities. DOE WASTE MANAGEMENT LICENCES (CONSULTATION AND COMPENSATION) REGULATIONS 2008
The Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland has issued a consultation on Waste Management Licences (Consultation and Compensation Regulations (NI) 2008). The consultation document is seeking views on proposals to require a waste management licence holder to consult and possibly compensate landowners whose land they have to enter and carry out works on, in order to comply with a waste management licence. EHS CONSULTATION ON RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES

THE GREAT WASTE SURVEY
The CIWM journal has launched the Great Waste Survey 2007 to find out what you think of the hottest topics of the last year. This series of simple questions will give us the chance to assess what CIWM readers really think about alternate weekly collections, the success (or otherwise) of the UK's waste strategies and the industry's progress as regards health and safety. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR JUNIOR VICE-PRESIDENT 2008/9
Corporate Members of the Institution are reminded that Nominations are due by the 31st December for the position Junior Vice-President of the Institution for 2008/9. Candidates for the office of Junior Vice-President must be Fellows of the Institution. Nominations are required in writing, and must be proposed and seconded by any two General Councillors or Centre Councillors. The Nomination Form must be signed by the Nominee, and must be accompanied by a personal statement of not more than 250 words, giving some biographical information on the nominee, their career and achievements, and the contribution that they will bring to the Institution in the position of President.
A standard form of nomination can be obtained from the Professional Services Manager, Mark Gibson, at CIWM Headquarters, and nominations must be received by the Chief Executive at the Institution’s Headquarters by no later than 12.00 noon on 31st December 2007.

LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT OF WASTE AND RESOURCES WORKSHOP
CIWM are proposing to hold a low cost workshop in Northampton on the 19 November which will provide participants with an insight into Life Cycle Assessment. The workshop will involve some brief presentation, followed by an opportunity for each delegate to practically experience the use of the Environment Agency’s WRATE software. Case studies of previous use of the software tool will also be demonstrated to highlight the capabilities of life cycle assessment.
