DEFRA MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT STATISTICS
Defra have published the first provisional set of estimates from the Department’s 2007/8 survey of municipal waste for England. The provisional results incorporate the first quarter of the financial year and are based on information supplied by local authorities in England to WasteDataFlow. WALES RAISES STANDARDS FOR RECYCLING
The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing has set out a vision for reaching the target of recycling 70% of all municipal waste by 2025. NATIONAL RODENT SURVEY REPORT 2007
The eighth National Rodent Survey Report undertaken by the National Pest
Technician's Association (NPTA) has been issued. The report is based upon facts and figures provided by sixty two percent of local authorities within the United Kingdom (UK). Alternate weekly collections are not considered one of the primary reasons for increase in rats numbers in this years report. See

BERR HEAT CALL FOR EVIDENCE
The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) have released a call for evidence on heat. The report sets out BERR understanding of the opportunities and prospects for renewable heat and some of the barriers that prevent the greater use of renewable heat. See

SCOTLAND’S RENEWABLE HEAT STRATEGY
The Forum for Renewable Energy Development in Scotland (FREDS) has released a report making recommendations to Scottish Ministers on renewable heat. The recommendations include an analysis of potential heat markets with the aim of setting an appropriate target, the development of a wider heat strategy, the need to improve the existing building stock to maximise uptake of renewable heat. EUROPEAN COMMISSION ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT OF MUNICIPAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
The European Commission Joint Research Centre Institute for Environment and Sustainability have published the final pilot study reports on environmental assessment of municipal waste management. The reports present the outcomes of 9 preliminary life cycle pilot studies conducted with representatives of the European Union's (EU) New Member States for the management of municipal solid waste.
