DEFRA PACKAGING TARGETS
Defra have confirmed that they intend for packaging waste recovery and recycling targets for Great Britain to increase from 2008 onwards. The new higher targets announced have been designed to save more CO2 emissions than the targets
originally published in Defra's consultation paper last year. For more information

SCOTLAND RECYCLING FIGURES
Recycling Figures released by the Scottish Government show that Scotland is
continuing to make good progress. The rolling year recycling performance for
October 2006 to September 2007 is 30.5 per cent. This is up from 29.8 per cent

MRW STATE OF THE NATION REPORT
MRW have released the 2008 State of the Nation report, 121 local authority recycling officers, or equivalent, from 121 different local authorities were interviewed.

LONDON MAYOR’S DRAFT BUSINESS WASTE STRATEGY CONSULTATION
The Mayor of London has produced for public consultation a draft strategy for the

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND SUSTAINABLE RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT PLANNING GUIDELINES CONSULTATION
The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have published

THE STATE OF COMPOSTING AND BIOLOGICAL WASTE TREATMENT IN THE UK 2005/06
The Composting Association and WRAP have released the 2005/06 market survey of the UK composting biological treatment industry. The survey asked for the first time for information on the distances compost products were transported to the point of use. REPUBLIC OF IRELAND WASTE PREVENTION THE PRIORITY
The Minister of State at the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government addressed the Local Authority Prevention Demonstration Conference advising that they should recycle and recover all their waste but they must generate less waste to recycle was the key message. THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION WASTE REDUCTION FINANCIAL INCENTIVE SCHEME
In last weeks edition we carried news of the letter sent by LGA to all Local Authorities in England and Wales calling for councils interested in piloting a waste reduction and recycling financial incentives schemes. We incorrectly said the letter was sent by LGA on behalf of defra. In fact this letter was sent by LGA who are working with defra on the piloting schemes and joint Waste Authorities.
