NEW RESEARCH REVEALS SCALE OF PACKAGING WASTE PROBLEM
The Local Government Association has published its second investigation into the weight of retailer packaging and how much of it can be recycled. It shows that up to 38 per cent of packaging in a regular household shopping basket cannot be recycled. See report http://www.lga.gov.uk/lga/aio/593234
NEW NET WASTE TOOL HELPS CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS CALCULATE POTENTIAL SAVINGS IN QUANTITIES AND COSTS OF WASTE
A new online resource developed by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) enables construction clients, designers and contractors to reduce waste to landfill by more accurately identifying where efforts should be focused to achieve the most environmental benefit and the most substantial cost savings. WRAP CAPITAL GRANT PROGRAMME OFFERS INVESTMENT BOOST FOR CONSTRUCTION WASTE RECYCLERS

CONSULTATION ON THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION’S PROPOSED DIRECTIVE ON INDUSTRIAL EMMISSIONS (INTERGRATED POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL) (RECAST) – COMBUSTION PLANTS

SCOTLAND TO DO MORE TO COMBAT WASTE
Doubts have been raised over Scotland's ability to meet its future recycling targets following the publication of the country's latest recycling figures published. The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has published data indicating a 4.1% growth in recycling in Scotland between 2006 and 2007, with the municipal recycling rate reaching 31.2%. RECYCLE WEEK 2008
Recycle Week 2008 will start on Monday 2nd June 2008 for a week of high profile activities focusing on the benefits of recycling. CWRM – COMMUNICATIONS IN WASTE AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
2007 saw the successful release of this new and exciting rapid communications journal. We are currently compiling the 4th edition for publication in June 2008 and are therefore calling for submissions for the 5th issue from a broad cross section of our industry such as professional waste managers and practitioners, academic researchers and consultants. Critically, we seek to provide a rapid turn around outlet for high quality, practical research of significant interest to the national and international resource and waste management sector. ISWA WORKING GROUP MEETING ON LANDFILL AT TORBAY
ISWA Working Group on Landfill is having its Spring/Summer meeting at the Palace Hotel on Thursday 12th June and that anyone with an interest in the subject would be welcome to attend to see the issues that are being dealt with by the Working Group in the wider worldwide context.
